About the Conference

The annual conference of the International Network of Analytical Sociology (INAS) brings together scholars from quantitative sociology and adjacent fields (e.g., demography, political science, computational social science) who focus on mechanism-based explanations for social phenomena. Analytical sociologists study a range of topics, from segregation, inequality and polarization, to migration, social norms and the diffusion of innovation.

The 19th edition of INAS takes place at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse and the Toulouse School of Economics, in la ville rose, France's fourth city by population. Toulouse is a vibrant city with a beautiful historic center, located in the heart of the Occitanie region, at the foot of the Pyrenees and in between the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.

Call for abstracts

INAS 2027 is now accepting abstracts for short-format presentations (~20 minutes). Reflecting the breadth of analytical sociology, we welcome submissions on any sociological topic using any method (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, experimental, simulation-based, historical). We especially encourage applications that examine social mechanisms and the macro-level phenomena they give rise to.

The conference will host a Women’s Forum with flash talks for junior scholars and a panel on the first day. We are aiming to create an inclusive space for everyone, so we are encouraging scholars from any underrepresented groups to voice their needs and to participate.

We invite you to submit an abstract (max. 350 words) using this form.

The deadline for submission is January 11th, 2027.

Note that only one submission is allowed per presenting author.

Keynote Speakers

Freda Lynn

Freda Lynn is Professor of Sociology at the University of Iowa. She received her PhD in Sociology from Harvard University in 2006. Her research examines status hierarchies and processes that generate inequality, such as social influence and cumulative advantage. A recent line of work focuses on how actors perceive the hierarchies in which they are embedded and how these micro-level valuation beliefs underlie macro-level hierarchies.

Miranda Lubbers

Miranda Lubbers is Professor in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Acadèmia fellow of the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies. She holds a PhD in Behavioral and Social Sciences from the University of Groningen (2004). Her research examines how social networks shape key societal processes such as social cohesion, polarisation, and exclusion - particularly in the context of migration and socioeconomic vulnerability. Miranda is a member of the European Academy of Sociology.
